Queens House
Bishop Ltd were appointed as specialist Groundworks sub-contractor for this challenging central London site.
First stage of works located in the basement with extremely limited access comprising of two stair cases and one plant access hatch. Our management team immediately set to work to find the best solution. It was decided that we would introduce a Brokk 360 Remote controlled demolition machine to break the 250Thk RC Ground bearing slab.
The Plant access hatch concrete planks were removed utilising an A-frame Gantry system with electric chain hoist. The Brokk was subsequently lifted and lowered in to the basement utilising the same method.
Once the Brokk had finished its work this was removed from site and a Takeuchi TB210 Hybrid Micro Digger was lowered in to place to enable us to efficiently excavate for the new drainage runs, manholes & lift shaft base to be constructed.
Challenges
This was a particularly challenging job with many challenges along the way. Upon excavation for the new lift shaft base (LSB) an existing main drainage run was uncovered right across the proposed location of the LSB.
Bishop Ltd were subsequently instructed to divert the existing drainage run which involved the construction of a new brick built manhole and approximately 20 metres of excavation, pipe laying & subsequent reinstatement.
The lift shaft base eventually ended up with multiple design changes as a result of further obstructions found in the ground. These were all swiftly dealt with by our expert management team and the LSB has now been completed for a very satisfied client.
Works ongoing and to include further works:
Excavation and construction of new 1000dp RC foundation with 500thk RC Slab
200m2+ Tata Comflor Metal decking & 150thk RC Slabs
Design and Installation of RC Stairs
Installation of D49 Mesh and 50thk concrete …
