Heritage – Restoration – Carpentry – Abney Park Cemetery

A lottery funded project.

Abney Park cemetery is described as one of the “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries in London.

The Grade II listed chapel was built by William Hosking and is the oldest surviving non-denominational chapel in Europe.

Our carpenters were thrilled to receive this challenging project and got stuck in to cutting and forming the new vaulted ceiling on site, whilst being careful to match the shape to the original Gothic arch. They starting by reinsulating and repairing existing rafters and bracing them before adding a layer of acoustic concealment fabric and finishing by installing 22mm European oak battens we see today. Magnificent!

In addition to this we also replaced the bespoke oak doors to the chapel entrance.

Heritage – New Build and Restoration – Brickwork & Carpentry – Cranford Park

A lottery funded Heritage project.

Following vandalism and an arson attack on the 2 stable blocks in the park we were asked to salvage and restore what was possible on this Heritage site and rebuild the stable blocks.

Carpentry – This involved using very large timber joists to allow for the larger than average roof span, finished with marine ply to create a good base for the installation of a living roof. Internally, we matched and replaced oak decorative tongue and groove panelling and flooring, and revarnishing both to match existing colour codes. We also installed new hot boxes for bat conservation on the roof.

Brickwork – To stay in keeping with the traditional structure, we sourced and used the same handmade bricks and ready mix lime mortar to build the new coffee shop. However, although the build remained aesthetically traditional we installed modern insulation in the walls and roof to reach the correct E values. We also undertook structural strengthening works and repairs to existing cellar arches in the basement. This reinforcement works in the cellar were required to allow for a concrete slab and additional rooms to be added above the basement

Refurbishments – Commercial Office

Strip-out, Carpentry, Electrics and Decoration package.

We completely stripped out this office to create a brand new modern workable space.
Speed was important as the Client wanted it completed in 10 days. We met this deadline!

The office required complete rewiring of the electrics, with new power points and spot lights to suit the new layout, we also had to custom build the directors desks and board room table as delivery dates for furniture was outside of the 10 day deadline. We included a new swanky glass office with frosted privacy detail to both the internal office and front windows. Bespoke storage cupboards were built in a very awkward alcove in the rear and  a new fitted kitchenette. The office was painted, both inside and out and final details checked. The Client was very impressed with the result and our commitment to their deadline.

New Build – Residential Homes

Turnkey – New Build, 2 Executive Semi-Detached Residential Homes.

All building tradesmen were utilised in completing these 2 beautiful executive investment properties, which were built on virgin land.

Both, external and internal works, including  Kitchen and bathrooms, were all finished to a very high specification to meet current trends.…

New Build – 20 Residential Flats – Wanstead

Brickwork, Blockwork and Diamond Drilling package.

This was a 3 facet build as involved the structure of the main block, housing 20 apartments, and a further 2 additional outbuildings for the bike shed and plant room.

The works started from the ground up, with the setting out of the gridlines in readiness for the brick and block work required. We also installed all the required insulation and fire barriers as the building went up, finishing the brick façade in good time for the roofing team to complete their works.

In addition to the brick and block work, we also undertook the diamond drilling package. We drilled strategic holes to allow for utilities to be passed through the building to service the individual apartments. This project as a whole was slightly challenging due to the extensive drawing changes along the way, which led to a change of direction mid project. Regardless, with great teamwork between ourselves and the client, we managed to get back on track and the project progressed well.…
